The introduction of the theme of society in the triptych “Matter of Opinion” is made with distorted structures. Four buildings are puffed up to spherical shapes and thus mimic an arm holding a bowling ball, behind which a player stands with high rolled up shirt sleeves, tie and suspenders. He appears again enlarged on the right panel, where he delineates a circle with a spinning-top whilst laughing. This work not only refers to Marcel Duchamp’s passion for gambling and fascination with chess and boules, but also on the game as a social practice, its opposing actors, elbow society and the disastrous stock market games of the recent past.
